Strategic Writing Instruction
Dr. Carla España, Fellow of TheEdCollab and Clinical Doctoral Lecturer, and Shawna Coppola, Fellow of TheEdCollab and author of Renew! Become a Better-and More Authentic–Writing Teacher, will lead this session on teaching writing well (even if you do not feel like a writer... yet!). They will share important methods to support writers, across grade levels, in writing with skill and intention. Learn methods you can apply for teaching writing across text types. This session is for you if you have students who "don't write" or have "nothing to write about," or if you carry reservations about writing because you haven't "written anything—beyond emails—in years", or if you have students who seem to write circles around you and you don't know what to do next! Learn methods for supporting monolingual and multilingual writers and celebrating diverse identities through writing. Enliven your practice and bring joy to writing instruction all year long!
Standards-aligned: CCSS W1-10; Danielson: 1, 2a-b, 3, 4a, d-e; ISTE: 6; Teaching Tolerance: Identity, Diversity, Action
Each session is linked to professional and learning standards. As every district is different, crosswalk these between your own standards for alignment or contact us with questions.
