Ending a Year of Literacy Joyfully
Our tradition continues! Each year, our Study Series season ends with the same session title: “Ending the Year with Joy.” We then invite and inspiring, talented, and child-centered, artist or creator to lead this session and bring their own spin on what it means to end a school year with joy.
This year we are delighted to have special guest, C.G. Esperanza, author, illustrator, and gifted visual artist to lead us on this journey. C.G. is author and illustrator of the award winning picture book, Red, Yellow, Blue (and a Dash of White, Too), illustrator of Jackie and Me: A Very Special Friendship. His work has been featured in the New York Times, Kirkus Review, The Huffington Post, School Library Journal, and across walls and store windows of New York City.
From his website: ” Born the second of six kids. The South Bronx is where he first opened his eyelids. A land shrouded in bright colored decay, the birthplace of graffiti and the hip-hop DJ! He paints fantasy worlds of elephants, and castles too! Accompanying this wonder is some whimsical truth. Charles has a voice that is seldom heard. A fusion of jazz, distorted guitars, and chirping birds.”
The session’s content and practices will both support educators in planning end-of-year literacy experiences and engage students tuning in with you. C. G.’s energy, belief in children, and love of literacy and the arts will make this a session that helps you reflect on your end of year literacy experiences and see them in a whole knew light. This daytime (in the Western Hemisphere) session is open to your sharing with students. Project on a screen or digital board in a classroom or larger space.
