Culturally Relevant and Responsive Reading Instruction, 5-12

Join this online cohort to engage in critical inquiry into practices that open up our reading instruction to be a more inclusive, responsive, and ultimately support student growth.

Members of this yearlong inquiry will study with educators from around the world, led by Dr. Dana Stachowiak, TheEdCollab member and contributing author to Culturally Affirming Literacy Practices for Urban Elementary Students and Tricia Ebvaria, Fellow of TheEdCollab and co-founded of Disrupt Texts. Research shows that culturally affirming practices support student achievement, build a stronger sense of self, and benefit entire school communities. This cohort of educators will dig deeply into critical practices around identity, anti-bias education, and student-centered literacy. You will explore your methods, curriculum, and the beliefs that guide them.

The year of Virtual Think Tank cohort meetings is designed to deepen practice through inquiry. Learn methods from cohort leaders, between sessions experiment with students (or educators you lead), return the next meeting to share… repeat!

In addition to live cohort meetings, all Virtual Think Tank members receive a Full Year Study Series as part of their registration.

The Virtual Think Tank cohort meets for 5 sessions, online, live. View start the start date and time for this cohort here. All additional cohort dates will be determined within the cohort, making your involvement better match your availability.

In addition, cohort members have access to the Full Year Study series. 12 additional workshop sessions, on a variety of K-12 literacy topics. The Study Series includes a Group Viewing license and may be shared with every member of your school.

Every Study Series Session takes place on a Wednesday at either 11AM EST (8AM PST) or 6PM EST (3PM PST).

Following each live session, a recording is available, On-Demand for repeated viewing through June 30th! Recordings are posted within 7 days from the live event.
